§ · BiteDeck vs. Yazio
An honest comparison.
Yazio is the closest thing to a fair fight on this site. It is one of the few mainstream trackers that treats intermittent fasting as a real feature rather than a timer bolted on, so the usual BiteDeck argument does not apply. The split is elsewhere: recipes and cross-platform sync against no account and on-device privacy.
§ 01 · TL;DR
Pick Yazio if you want recipes and meal plans alongside the log, you need Android or a web browser, or you are logging mostly European groceries where its database is strongest.
Pick BiteDeck if you want the same serious fasting support with no account, no server, deeper US restaurant menus, and a much larger Apple Health surface.
Both are good at fasting. Choose on everything else.

§ 03 · Where Yazio wins
Recipes and meal plans. A large recipe library with structured plans. BiteDeck has nothing comparable and is not building it — if you open a tracker to decide what to cook, Yazio is the better tool.
Cross-platform and sync.iPhone, Android, and web, with your log following you across devices. BiteDeck's no-server design is exactly what makes that impossible — the privacy and the sync are the same trade-off seen from two sides.
European food coverage.Yazio is a German product with a database to match. For groceries outside the US, its coverage is generally better than BiteDeck's.
Fasting, genuinely.Worth repeating because most comparison pages would quietly claim this one. Yazio's fasting tracker is real and well-built. This is a tie, not a win.
§ 04 · Where BiteDeck wins
No account, no server.Open the app and start. Your log lives in SwiftData on your phone rather than synced to a company's database. Read how a tracker works with no account, or why it works offline.
US restaurant menus. 282 chains, section-sorted, with scoped in-menu search and multi-add for build-your-own bowls. If you eat out in the US, this is the single biggest day-to-day difference.
Apple Health depth. 5 reads, 10 writes, and a separate in-app toggle for every metric on top of the iOS permission — pause one without revoking everything. See Apple Health & HealthKit sync.
Body fat and forecasting. Four body-fat methods feeding a Katch-McArdle calorie target, plus an on-device weight forecast that detects a reversed trend rather than extrapolating a line that stopped being true two weeks ago.
Export without paying. CSV and PDF are in the free tier. Yazio gates export behind PRO.
§ 05 · Pricing
Yazio: free tier plus a PRO subscription that unlocks recipes, meal plans, and export. Verify the current PRO price on their site.
BiteDeck: free tier and paid tier ($14.99/month or $69.99/year). No ads in either tier; the paid tier covers only the four AI features. Tracking, fasting, and export are free forever. See full pricing.
§ 06 · Privacy
Yazio requires an account and syncs your log to its servers under its own privacy terms. That server is what makes the web app and multi-device access work — it is a design consequence, not a lapse.
BiteDeck has no servers and no account. Zero analytics, zero trackers, zero cookie banner on this site. Off-device traffic is limited to a few narrowly scoped AI flows routed through BiteDeck's proxy and never retained. See BiteDeck's privacy policy.
§ 07 · FAQ
Is BiteDeck a good Yazio alternative?
On iPhone, yes — with one honest caveat. Yazio is one of the few mainstream trackers that takes intermittent fasting seriously, so unlike most comparisons, fasting is not a reason to switch. The reasons to switch are no account, no server, deeper US restaurant coverage, and a much larger Apple Health surface.
Does BiteDeck have intermittent fasting like Yazio?
Yes, and this is close to a tie. Both apps ship real fasting trackers rather than a bolted-on timer. BiteDeck covers 16:8, 18:6, 20:4, OMAD, and custom windows from 1 to 72 hours, with milestone alerts and streak protection — a fast of 20 hours or more protects its end day automatically. Yazio bundles its fasting tracker with recipes and meal plans, which BiteDeck does not have at all.
Does BiteDeck have recipes and meal plans like Yazio?
No. Recipes and structured meal plans are a genuine Yazio strength and BiteDeck has no equivalent — it assumes you decide what to eat and want to record it accurately. If meal planning is why you opened Yazio, BiteDeck is not a replacement.
Where does my data live in BiteDeck vs Yazio?
Yazio requires an account and syncs your log to its servers, which is what makes the web app and cross-device access work. BiteDeck has no account and no server — your log lives in SwiftData on your iPhone, exportable as CSV or PDF anytime. That is the direct trade: you give up cross-device sync to get no-server privacy.
