§ · BiteDeck vs. Noom
An honest comparison.
These are not the same kind of product. Noom is a paid behaviour-change program that happens to include a food log. BiteDeck is a food log with no program, no subscription to track, and no account. Comparing them on features alone misses the point, so this page starts with what each one is for.
§ 01 · TL;DR
Pick Noom if the thing you actually need is structure and accountability — daily lessons, a human coach checking in, and a curriculum that works on your habits rather than your spreadsheet. Plenty of people need exactly that, and no amount of tracking features substitutes for it.
Pick BiteDeck if you already know what to do and just want to log it — accurately, for free, without an account, a subscription, or a daily lesson to dismiss.
The honest version: if Noom is working for you, its price is buying the coaching, not the calorie counter. If you are paying Noom and skipping the lessons, you are paying a program price for a tracker.

§ 03 · Where Noom wins
Human coaching.A real person assigned to you, reading your log and responding. BiteDeck's AI Coach is useful, but it is not a human being who notices you went quiet for four days. If that accountability is what keeps you consistent, it is not a feature BiteDeck can match.
The psychology curriculum.Noom's daily lessons on habit formation, triggers, and cognitive distortions are the actual product. BiteDeck has no equivalent and does not want one — it assumes you already know why you are logging.
Cross-platform. iPhone, Android, and web. BiteDeck is iPhone-only, which is a real cost if you switch devices or want to log from a browser.
Structure for beginners. If you have never tracked before, Noom's guided onboarding and colour-coded food system are gentler than a blank log and a search field.
§ 04 · Where BiteDeck wins
It is free, permanently. This is the largest practical difference. Noom has a trial; when it ends, tracking stops unless you subscribe. BiteDeck's free tier does not expire — logging, food search, barcode, label scanning, Apple Health sync, fasting, weight, body fat, widgets, and CSV/PDF export are all free forever. See what is in each tier.
No account, no server.Open the app and start. Nothing to sign up for, nothing to cancel, and your log lives in SwiftData on your phone rather than in a company's database. Read how a tracker works with no account.
Restaurant menus that work. 282 chains, section-sorted, with scoped in-menu search and multi-add for build-your-own bowls.
Fasting, body fat, and a real forecast. 16:8 through OMAD timers with streak protection, four body-fat methods, and an on-device weight forecast that detects a reversed trend instead of quietly extrapolating.
Apple Health depth. 5 reads, 10 writes, per-metric toggles. See Apple Health & HealthKit sync.
§ 05 · Pricing
Noom: subscription only. There is a trial, but no permanent free tier — tracking ends with the subscription. Pricing is personalized and changes with promotions, so check their site for the figure you would actually pay, and read the cancellation terms before starting a trial.
BiteDeck: free tier and paid tier ($14.99/month or $69.99/year). No ads in either tier. The paid tier covers only the four AI features — photo scan, Coach, Plate Check, and voice logging. Counting calories never costs anything. See full pricing.
§ 06 · Privacy
Noom stores your food log, weight history, and coaching conversations on its servers under its own privacy terms. Because the coaching model requires a human reading your data, that access is inherent to the product rather than incidental.
BiteDeck has no servers and no account. Zero analytics, zero trackers, zero cookie banner on this site. Off-device traffic is limited to a few narrowly scoped AI flows routed through BiteDeck's proxy and never retained. See BiteDeck's privacy policy.
§ 07 · FAQ
Is BiteDeck a good Noom alternative?
It depends what you are leaving Noom for. If you want the tracking without the subscription, the daily lessons, and the account, yes — BiteDeck logs calories and macros for free with nothing to sign up for. If what is working for you at Noom is the psychology curriculum and the human coach, BiteDeck has neither and is not trying to replace them.
Is there a free version of Noom?
Noom is a subscription product. It offers a trial, but there is no permanent free tier — when the trial ends, tracking stops unless you pay. BiteDeck has a free tier that does not expire: logging, food search, barcode, label scanning, Apple Health, fasting, weight, and export are all free forever, and only the AI features are paid.
Does BiteDeck have a coach like Noom?
BiteDeck has an AI Coach in its paid tier, but it is not the same thing. Noom pairs you with a human coach and a structured behavior-change curriculum with daily lessons. BiteDeck’s Coach answers nutrition questions in context of your own log. If a human being checking in on you is the reason Noom works for you, that is a real difference and BiteDeck does not match it.
Where does my data live in BiteDeck vs Noom?
Noom stores your log, weight history, and coaching conversations on its servers behind an account. BiteDeck has no account and no server — your data lives in SwiftData on your iPhone, and you can export it as CSV or PDF anytime without a subscription.
